Mixed news. One item of news, mixed reactions.
News: National Grid (our electric/gas company) sent us a letter stating that because the landlady didn’t solve the shared meter problem we reported within 120 days, they are charging her three and a half years’ (since we moved in) worth of electricity that was shared (namely, two outlets in each apartment, and the basement laundry area). It equals out to over $500. Also, there’s a one time fee of about $750 as well. She’s been forced to pay that, and the $500+ has been credited to our account, so our gas and electric bill will be $0 til it runs out in probably about three or four months.
Reaction 1: HOLY SHIT THAT’S $500 I DON’T HAVE TO SPEND OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS HOLY SHIT I CAN SAVE AND USE IT FOR OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF THIS IS GREAT.
Reaction 2: Holy shit my landlady is going to be on the WARPATH she already hates us for reporting it and making her build the most ramshackle cob job ever making “rooms” for our separate washing machines/driers, plus switching up the electric on those four outlets, also guess what? The breaker boxes are mixed up–floor 2 is floor 1 and vice virsa, so we may have been paying the downstairs neighbors’ bill the whole time and they were probably paying ours. We’ll have to appeal to NG and ask. Also, she kicked out the downstairs neighbors because of unfolded clothes on the floor as an excuse to evict them, what’s she going to do to US? What if she just wants to demolish the house and sell the land or something? Or get rid of us completely and fix the whole house up and then rent it for double the price? What if she retaliates? She’s fucking rich, she can afford to go to court and drag things out. Her son is a dirty lawyer who would work for free, and yeah my aunt is a lawyer but she’s mainly retired and IDK if she’d help.
I just…that’s a whole lot of holy shit.
